Investing.com -- Shares in French steel pipe maker Vallourec jumped 4% on Monday after it won a major contract from TotalEnergies to supply tubular products for the Absheron gas field in Azerbaijan.

The contract covers oil country tubular goods (OCTG) and line pipe, totaling more than 16,000 tons of tubular products, Vallourec said in a statement on Monday. The statement did not give the value of the contract.

For the OCTG portion, Vallourec will supply premium pipes fitted with its VAM premium connections, including the VAM SLIJ-3, which the company describes as its latest-generation semi-flush premium connection, designed for the most demanding offshore environments.

The package also includes accessories made at the company’s facilities worldwide and CLEANWELL, its dope-free solution.

The line pipe portion comprises around 159 kilometers of pipe with an anti-corrosion coating, for both onshore and offshore use.

Vallourec said its local presence through its VAM Caspian unit would allow it to support TotalEnergies in various operations throughout the project.

The Absheron field lies in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, about 100 kilometers southeast of Baku, in around 500 meters of water.

It is being developed to produce up to 6 billion cubic meters of gas a year and 47,000 barrels per day of condensate, the company said. The gas will be supplied to Azerbaijan’s domestic market and exported.
