Investing.com-- Shares of Six Flags Entertainment Corp (NYSE:FUN) fell in extended trading Monday after a roller coaster-related incident at its Six Flags Over Georgia park left one person dead and several others injured.

The incident occurred Monday afternoon at the amusement park in Austell, about 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Atlanta. The Cobb County Police Department said detectives from its major crimes unit would investigate the incident, according to reports.

Shares of the company dropped 8.8% to $10.87 in after-hours trading by 20:39 ET.

Authorities did not disclose how the person died or what caused the injuries.

“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today,” a Six Flags spokesperson said, adding that the park was providing support to affected guests and employees and cooperating fully with local authorities.

The incident comes amid recent legal scrutiny involving amusement park rides. Last month, Six Flags Magic Mountain in California announced the retirement of its X2 roller coaster following lawsuits alleging serious brain injuries linked to the ride.

Six Flags recently settled a wrongful-death lawsuit brought by the family of a 22-year-old man who died after riding X2 in 2022. Three additional lawsuits alleging traumatic brain injuries were filed last week.
