Investing.com -- France’s EDF has suspended plans to sell a stake in its Italian subsidiary Edison due to uncertainty surrounding gas supplies from Qatar, Edison’s chief executive said on Wednesday. The sale process may restart early next year.

The ongoing conflict between the US and Iran has disrupted energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz, which served as a transit point for approximately one fifth of global liquefied natural gas supplies before the war began.

Edison has been replacing LNG cargoes that QatarEnergy has canceled since April. In its most recent official notice, the Qatari energy group stated it would not deliver LNG cargoes to Edison until at least the first half of December.

"At the moment, neither we nor, it seems, QatarEnergy are in a position to make longer-term forecasts. We hope deliveries can resume at the beginning of next year, but we have no visibility at this stage," Edison CEO Nicola Monti said.
