Beijing hits out after Taipei bans mainland travel for Sun Yat-sen anniversary
北京批评台北禁止台湾官员赴中国大陆首都，参加纪念孙中山诞辰160周年的活动。活动定于11月12日举行，此举引发北京与台北围绕纪念孙中山的新争端。
A fresh dispute has erupted between Beijing and Taipei over commemorations for Sun Yat-sen, a Chinese revolutionary hero who is revered on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Beijing on Wednesday lashed out at Taipei’s move to ban Taiwanese officials from attending events in the mainland Chinese capital marking the 160th anniversary of Sun’s birth on November 12.
Sun brought an end to more than 2,000 years of imperial rule when he founded the Republic of China (ROC) in 1912, and he also founded the Kuomintang (KMT).
After the civil war ended in 1949, the KMT government fled to Taiwan and the People’s Republic of China was established on the mainland by Mao Zedong and the Communist Party.
