Investing.com -- S&P Global Ratings upgraded SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK). to 'BBB' from 'BB+' on Monday, citing a sharp surge in artificial intelligence-driven demand for memory chips and a pristine, debt-free balance sheet. The credit rating agency maintained a stable outlook for the NAND flash memory producer, highlighting robust cash generation and significant financial cushion to absorb potential industry downturns.

The upgrade follows a transformative period of growth for SanDisk, driven by a tight supply-demand imbalance in the global flash memory market. Fueled by exponential growth in AI data center infrastructure, the company posted a 175% revenue surge in fiscal 2026 as pricing skyrocketed across all business segments.

Looking ahead, S&P expects SanDisk's momentum to accelerate into fiscal 2027, projecting revenue to double and free cash flow to surpass $23 billion. Operating profitability is anticipated to expand further as the company ramps up lower-cost technology and benefits from high-margin data center contracts featuring volume commitments and price protections.

While memory markets remain historically cyclical and prone to sudden price corrections, SanDisk's conservative balance sheet structure provides substantial risk mitigation. The company repaid all of its funded debt earlier in the year and is expected to maintain a net cash position even as capital expenditures increase and excess capital is returned to shareholders.

Against that backdrop, long-term supply agreement commitments from data center customers are providing enhanced earnings visibility compared to traditional PC and mobile markets. S&P noted that while new supply capacity from competitors could emerge by 2028, SanDisk's balance sheet retains ample strength to navigate future market shifts.
