Investing.com -- Finnish retailer Kesko’s September sales rose 4.8% from a year earlier to €1.2 billion, driven by double-digit growth in its car trade and technical trade divisions.

Sales growth excluding acquisitions, divestments and other structural changes, and calculated in local currencies, was 4.3%, the company said on Wednesday.

Car trade sales rose 12.3% as sales increased in new cars, used cars and services.

The car trade division’s total sales were €128.1 million, up 9.9%. Sports trade sales, which are part of the division, fell 3.5% to €16.9 million. The company gave no reason for the decline.

In technical trade, sales rose 8.7% on a comparable basis, or 9.6% as reported, to €260.2 million. Sales in building and home improvement trade rose 2.5% on a comparable basis, or 3.9% as reported, to €263.9 million.

The building and technical trade division’s sales were €515.3 million, up 6.5%, or 5.3% on a comparable basis. On a comparable basis, division sales rose 7.1% in Finland, 4.5% in Norway, 2.6% in Denmark and 11.6% in Poland. Sales in Sweden were at last year’s level.

Grocery trade sales rose 2.2% to €557.5 million. Sales to K Group grocery stores rose 1.8%, and sales in K-Citymarket’s home and speciality goods (non-food) trade also increased. Sales at Kespro rose 0.5% to €103.1 million.

"Sales grew in all three divisions," said Jorma Rauhala, Kesko’s president and CEO.

By region, sales in Finland were €888.5 million, up 4.4%. Sales in other countries were €309.9 million, up 6.1%, or 4.1% on a comparable basis.
