Investing.com -- Man Wah Holdings stock plunged 12.9% to HK$2.40 on Tuesday after the company released a dire profit warning for its half year eaenings.

Man Wah said net profit attributable to equity holders for the six months ending September 30, 2026 is expected to plummet between 70% and 90% compared with approximately HKD 1.15 billion earned in the same period a year earlier.

The company attributed the dramatic earnings deterioration to a sharp rise in the prices of key chemical-based raw materials — a trend it linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict — combined with intensified industry price competition that delayed any offsetting adjustments to product selling prices, severely eroding gross margins.

Compounding the raw material cost shock, Man Wah disclosed that its U.S. furniture business — acquired as recently as December 2025 — generated an operating loss due to both elevated input costs and weak consumer demand. Southern Motion, Inc., a direct wholly owned subsidiary of the acquired company, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States, forcing Man Wah to recognize impairment charges on goodwill and other intangible assets.

The company stressed that its core revenue remained broadly stable and that it is pursuing cost controls and restructuring measures to protect medium-term profitability, with formal interim results scheduled for release on November 16.

The broader Hong Kong market provided little cushion, with the Hang Seng Index (HK50) also edging lower by approximately 0.4%.
